Minister of State Joerg Hennerkes emphasized
the importance of the fact that the gas from the coal seams is converted into
electricity and warmth. The background is that this gas - a large share of it is
methane - is polluting the air much more than the power plants' carbon dioxide. The consequence is
that there is a double benefit from using the gas in power plants like the one
at Haus Aden colliery: First there is the reduction of environmental pollution
and second there is the electricity and the warmth generated.
