Opening ceremony for the Lippe ferry called Baldur in Dorsten ! |
The ferry was built by trainees of Auguste Victoria/Blumenthal and Lippe colliery and it has to be moved across the river in the same way the miners had to move their ferry when they wanted to get to work: The ferry is fixed at two ropes on each of it's sides and the passengers have to move it by turning a wheel that is mounted on the ferry and that is connected to a chain the ferry moves along. Special thanks for these photos to Heinz Großmann who is presenting even more pictures about the Ruhr area, mining etc. on his website http://www.suderwich.net. Please click on the photos' small versions in order to enlarge them and to get the corresponding background information. ATTENTION: The pictures' explanations can now be found UNDER the large versions. |
