This is Robert shaft in Hamm (Germany). This tower with a height of 65 metres is one of a very rare kind and the last one that is still in use:

The way this tower is built is called "hammerhead tower" and this can be understood when looking at it. In contrary to many other towers the machine is not situated in another building, but it is placed in the "hammer's head" far away from the ground. Here the Koepe-hoisting principle is used, as well.

In the Ruhr area there are only three towers left of this kind: Robert shaft in Hamm, Erin shaft in Castrop-Rauxel and Minister Stein shaft in Dortmund (all locations are in Germany). Other ones can be found in the German Saar region (Camphausen IV shaft) und in the French Lorraine region.
