The Heinrich shaft - visible in this photo - is
used to bring material and miners underground and back to the surface. You can see two ropes, each of
them carrying two pit cages. The ropes - when coming out of the shaft - are led
over the shaft tower's first wheel and then down to the machines' house. Here
the driving wheel makes the rope move and by that it is driven back to the shaft
tower's second wheel and then down the shaft again, so that two pit cages are
moving in the shaft during only one transportation process (one cage upwards and
one downwards; that is called "Koepe hoisting"). The rope in the front is used
to reach the sixth level (-970 metres) and the other one goes down to the
seventh level at -1120 metres.
In the foreground you can see the pit fan of
Robert shaft. A channel is built a
few metres under the surface in order to connect the pit fan with Robert shaft.
