This picture shows you a ring that will be
mounted inside the shaft. These rings are used in order to collect the water
falling down the shaft. You cannot see this very well, but
this ring does not form an entire circle, but has a flat part on the opposite to
where this photo was taken from. The reason for that is that different pipes are
leading down the shaft - e.g. for the supply with compressed air - and there has
to be enough space for them.
