One of the pit cages !

In this picture you can see one of Lerche shaft's two pit cages. These cages move up and down the shaft with a speed of 12 metres per second (approx. 43,2 km/h).

The rectangular column on the right is the bottom part the shaft tower's vertical round column and it contains an elevator. With that elevator the visitors could get up to the platforms at the tower's head during the open day. These platforms are usually used to maintain the wheels on top of the shaft tower.
