Even if in most cases metal or steel is used underground, sometimes the wood
cannot be replaced by it. That is why wood is used e.g. for the stabilization of
some parts of a longwall mining area. For that reason a pile of wood has been
placed next to one of the stations of the Cross on the slagheap of Prosper-Haniel
colliery in the city of Bottrop (Germany).
