In earlier times a colliery's entire coal production was brought from the
longwall mining areas to the corresponding shafts in these mine cars. Because of
the large amount of coal that is extracted in modern collieries, today the
transportation can be done more efficient by using conveyors. Nevertheless these
mine cars are still in use, but now only for moving different materials from one
place to another.
