Here you can see the most important part of a shearer: The roll on which the
dark chisels are mounted like a spiral. Because of the rotation of this large
roll, the shearer is able to cut a slice of about 60 centimetres out of the
seam. Two of these large rolls are mounted at each shearer and they can be
positionned in such a way that this machine can also be used for extracting coal
from very large seams up to three metres and more.
