Here you can see very well one of the shearers that were used in
the Austrian coal mining industry. On the right there is the chain that moves
the entire shearer and on the left there is the spiral with the cisels that has
to extract the coal from the seam. During the process of extraction the shearer
sometimes causes interesting patterns on the coalface that can be seen close to
the left end of the photo.
