The shearer in action ! |
The light in the middle of the picture is a lamp fixed at the helmet of a miner, who is supervising the production. In the left half of the picture you can see something round with a grille. This is a machine producing cold air and it is mounted in the longwall mining area. Often the refrigerating plants in the roadways cannot produce enough cold air to cause an acceptable climate in the mining areas that are up to 300 metres long. To support these plants additional cold air is produced directly where the production takes place. |
