The shearer in a longwall mining area !

The shearer in action !

I decided to show you this picture of the shearer, because you can see authentically how it looks in a longwall mining area during the process of extraction. You can also see the cutting picks being fixed at the shearer like a spiral in order to cut into the coal.

The light in the middle of the picture is a lamp fixed at the helmet of a miner, who is supervising the production. In the left half of the picture you can see something round with a grille. This is a machine producing cold air and it is mounted in the longwall mining area. Often the refrigerating plants in the roadways cannot produce enough cold air to cause an acceptable climate in the mining areas that are up to 300 metres long. To support these plants additional cold air is produced directly where the production takes place.
